In this Library you will find an array of resources drawn from Equitas’ extensive practice in human rights education to support your work towards social change.  

In collaboration with our partners across the world, the resources included in this library aim to strengthen leadership for advancing human rights, with regards to gender equality and in community life; to strengthen human rights movements; and to improve the practice of human rights educators to engage and influence decision makers around human rights.  

These resources are at the core of our human rights education work. They are organized by language, thematic areas and resource type. We encourage you to use these resources, adapt and improve upon through your own practice, and share them out!

Decolonizing our Partnerships and Practices

The “Decolonizing our Partnership and Practices” knowledge package incorporates checklists and recommendations of how Equitas can decolonize our practices. To ensure participatory community engagement, Equitas staff and their international partners developed guidelines to encourage co-construction of tools and activities in human rights education with the local communities where we work. Manifesto : We, the Montreal youth

This manifesto was generated through extensive dialogues consultations with over 250 Montreal youth and authored by Equitas with the intent of synthesizing, and amplifying the diverse reflections voiced by the youth. The manifesto serves as a call to action against racism, racial injustice, children’s rights violations, discrimination, and exclusion in the city.

Building a trail: From policy to action

This interactive presentation is a depiction of a collective activity during a gathering of Equitas partners in 2024. Participants were invited to think on solutions and strategies to turn recommended policies into implementable and concrete action. #EquiTalks : How can we turn division into dialogue?

This brochure gathers the answers of five human rights defenders during the 2024 #EquiTalks panel discussion, who attempted to answer the question: How can we turn division into dialogue? The brochure suggests potential solutions and tips to counteract the polarization of opinions on human rights. Also available in French.

This graphic was made as part of a visual thinking workshop hosted by Percolab during an Equitas event in 2024 involving 30+ human rights educators and partners. Peace by piece: Youth voices for fighting racism, discrimination, and exclusion

This pamphlet is a human rights education tool designed and authored by an intergenerational team of BPOC activists, educators and allies from across Canada as part of the Equitas’ National Dialogue Against Racism Collective 2023, in partnership with Concordia University.

Building meaningful North-South partnerships: Lessons learned and best practices

The following lessons learned and good practices have been documented through the activities of the Act Together for Inclusion Fund (ACTIF) working group. This working group brings together Canadian organizations that have received funding from to carry out, in partnership with organizations in the South, projects that strengthen the respect, protection and fulfillment of the human rights of LGBTQ2I people. The purpose of children’s rights

This video spotlights several fundamental children’s rights enshrined in the Convention on the Rights of the Child. It sheds light on the stark reality that, despite these protections, numerous children in Canada continue to face rights violations. Children’s rights emphasize the importance of treating all children equally, with dignity, and with utmost respect. Also available in French.

Where I Live: A Community Mapping Activity

The goal of this activity on children’s rights is to map areas in communities where children and youth face exclusion, discrimination, and where their rights are not respected, while also providing them with the opportunity to discuss the changes they want to see. Also available in French.

Happy 75th Birthday: Universal Declaration of Human Rights

To commemorate the 75th anniversary of the UDHR, Equitas’ Knowledge Management Team has created this booklet, where we use archival newspaper articles, interviews, speeches by and about John Peters Humphrey as well as his autobiography to simulate how he may have answered modern-day questions and clarified misconceptions about the UDHR.
