Equitas supports the United Way… and tries to pull a jet!

October 17, 2014

On September 13, members from the Equitas British Columbia (BC) office supported the United Way of the Lower Mainland with the launch of their annual campaign. With support from UPS the launch included a Jet Pull, where teams of 15 participants put their muscle to the test as they tried to pull a 127,900-lb jet 50 feet down the UPS tarmac at Vancouver International Airport.

The Equitas Right to Pull! team was able to raise over $500 to support the United Way of the Lower Mainland.

The United Way of the Lower Mainland has supported Equitas’ Play it Fair! program for the past 3 years through the Middle Years Sector Strengthening Grant. Together with the United Way of the Lower Mainland (UWLM) and the Society for Children and Youth of BC, Equitas co-hosted a Middle Years Learning Summit in April 2013 themed Children’s Wellbeing. Their Rights.

As the partnership continues to grow the Equitas office in BC wanted to support the launch of the United Way fundraising campaign by creating their own Jet Pull team: the Right to Pull! Team members included Rajdeep Dhami from City of Surrey, Ivan Watson from the United Way Centraide National Board of Directors and Angie Mapara Osachoff, Equitas Regional Program Coordinator. Right to Pull! pulled the UPS jet with all of their might but were not successful in moving it, although team members would argue that they did wiggle it! Right to Pull! is committed to trying again next year…after lifting some more weights!
