Equitas’ annual International Human Rights Training Program (IHRTP) to take place June 8 to 27, 2014

Every year, and for the last 35 years, Equitas hosts a unique training program in Montreal to build human rights knowledge and skills, attitudes and behaviours.  We are preparing to receive over 90 human rights educators and defenders from over 50 countries for the three-week program during which the participants are equipped with innovative tools that enable them to enhance their action to defend and promote human rights and democratic values in their work back home. The training takes place in Ste-Anne-de-Bellevue, on the leafy campus of John-Abbott College, providing participants a safe Canadian environment where they can openly express themselves in a non-threatening environment.

“This training program is an important Canadian contribution to the spread of human rights and democratic principles around the world,” says Ian Hamilton, Executive Director of Equitas. “Through the IHRTP, participants gain greater confidence in their abilities as well as the skills and motivation to become effective human rights champions upon their return home”.

We look forward to another inspiring three-week program and the opportunity to meet courageous human rights defenders from around the world.

Number of participants confirmed so far:  55

IHRTP 2014 interns have officially arrived at Equitas office this week and are getting ready for the 35th edition. They will be assisting participants during the three-week training in Montreal.
