Status : 1 year Contract, Full time, 35 hours/per week (Hybrid work)

Salary range : $43 000 – $50 000

The opportunity

Equitas is seeking a highly motivated Development and Communications Coordinator who is passionate about human rights, equality, and inclusion, with extensive experience in communications and fundraising. Reporting to the Senior Fund Development Advisor, this person will support the implementation of Equitas’ fundraising and communication strategies. They will be involved in developing and coordinating fundraising and communication activities and provide administrative support for these activities. They will also collaborate closely with the Senior Communications and Community Officer.

Duties and responsibilities

Development Support

Philanthropic and Event Activities

  • Collaborate on the design, preparation, and follow-up of annual and other campaigns, and coordinate regular and electronic mailings.
  • Participate in organizing of fundraising events.
  • Assist in preparing and writing funding proposals, solicitation strategies, and impact reports.
  • Recruit, orient, and support volunteer efforts in fundraising.
  • Support and participate in stewardship activities

General Management and Administration

  • Strictly control fundraising budgets, forecasts, revenues, and expenses and work with Finance Team to coordinate reconcile quarterly financial statements
  • Produce various reports based on performance indicators to track objectives.
  • Process donations in software and update donor and partner information.
  • Ensure issuance of tax receipts and thank-you letters.
  • Ensure integrity of fundraising database.
  • Maintain and monitor numerous accounts and platforms regarding donations (PayPal, CanadaHelps, Benevity, etc) and generate backup reports as required.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date information on all current and potential donors (corporations, foundations, individuals) in databases and filing systems.
  • Coordinate work with vendors: printers, graphic designers, etc.
  • Perform regular administrative tasks: mail, preparing letters, presentations, and various documents, etc.

Communications Support

  • Assist the communications team in optimizing Equitas’ online engagement strategies to support fundraising objectives.
  • Manage and maintain Equitas’ website: update web pages, etc.
  • Manage the communications email box
  • Prepare newsletters and manage lists and mailings according to the schedule.
  • General support – creating visuals, social media, writing and translation.
  • Manage Equitas’ image bank.
  • Keep inventory of promotional and communication materials up to date.
  • Track web and social media metrics.
  • Perform any other tasks necessary for the success of Equitas and its fundraising and communication strategies.

About you

You are passionate about human rights and social justice, showing a keen interest in these fields. You are driven by the mission, vision, and values of Equitas and are committed to them. You thrive on challenges and have proven experience in creating and organizing online content. You have excellent communication skills in both French and English, and you are adept at engaging online communities and coordinating social media campaigns.

What is essential for the role

  • Eligibility to work in Canada and be based in Montreal.
  • University degree in Communication, Business Development, Marketing, Administration, or a related field.
  • Minimum 2 years of experience in fundraising, communications/social media management, or administration.
  • Experience with databases; proficiency in ProDon and/or Salesforce is a plus; otherwise, a willingness and ability to master new technologies and problem-solving.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite; knowledge of WordPress, social media platforms, and the following tools is a plus: MailChimp or equivalent, Canva or equivalent, Google Analytics, Adobe Creative Suite.
  • Proficiency in both official languages of Canada (English and French), both written and spoken.

An asset for the position

  • Experience in the NGO sector, particularly in human rights or social justice.
  • Experience in fundraising and event organization.
  • Knowledge of photography, video, and video editing is an asset.
