Across the globe, human rights educators and defenders regularly face violence, harassment and legal restrictions that impede their work. Their work is also hampered by the same gender stereotypes and barriers they try to combat through their commitment.
Human rights educators and defenders face many adversities, mainly lack of resources and recognition. Beyond financial constraints, the absence of adequate teaching materials, safe spaces and competent human resources severely limits their efforts. Their legitimacy is often called into question, affecting not only their work but also their personal well-being.
The Power of Equality project is a comprehensive initiative aimed at enhancing the capacity, performance, and leadership of human rights educators and defenders to promote and protect women’s rights and gender equality. Through strategic partnerships, inclusive governance, and targeted training and advocacy, the project seeks to create lasting impacts both globally and in Kenya, contributing to a more equitable and just world.
