Since January 2013, Equitas has partnered with five organisations working in Kahnawake in order to work on a community action project. Our Gang, MAD Group, Where The Creek Runs Clearer Group, Kahnawà:ke Youth Center and Kahnawà:ke Survival School decided to do a project on Respect, through the promotion of a symbol important in their culture, the Great White Pine. They called the project the Tree of Peace. They promoted respect through Speaking Rights activities, planned cultural evenings to inform children, youth and the community about the meaning of the White Pine, and finally planted five White Pines across the Community! A very inspiring project, leaded by amazing community workers!!

The tree planting ceremony was featured in the Kahnawake Shakotiia’takenhas Community Services newsletter.
