Nineteen human rights and community educators from Iraq, Jordan, Palestine, Egypt and Morocco took part in a five-day training on the use of Equitas’ new toolkit Let’s Act Together for Change in Broumana, Lebanon from May 8 – 12, 2012 The toolkit is an integral component of Equitas’ program in the Middle East, Citizenship Education in the Middle East and North Africa: A path to sustainable democracy, Peace and Security, which aims to enhance democratic development in the Middle East and North Africa through increased citizenship participation and mobilization. It is a practical and user-friendly guide for engaging communities in a mutual learning process aimed at enhancing gender equality and building capacity for citizens to influence decision-making processes and hold their governments accountable. The participants, who all work with organizations engaged in citizenship education programs with youth and women, developed ideas and plans for community-action projects with youth and women in their communities. They will also be sharing their new skills with colleagues doing similar work in their communities.
