The Equitas Colombia team is currently working with two local community- based organizations, Plataforma Social Usme and Fundacion La Diaspora, to conduct a baseline study to reference the current human rights situation in the communities. The activities are taking place in the communities of Usme in Bogota and Suacha in Cundinamarca from April 26 to May 9. The focus is to better understand community perceptions on topics such as the civic participation of women, children, and youth.
Through interviews and focus groups, community members will share their ideas with the Equitas team and both local partners. They will also help identify barriers that have a direct impact on the participation of these key actors in decision-making at the community level. The results from the baseline study will help Equitas assess the needs in the communities, which is a core component of the Strengthening Human Rights Education Globally (SHREG) project in Colombia.
Equitas is excited to be getting their work in Colombia off the ground. Stay tuned for more updates and information on team Colombia’s progress!
