The Opportunity
Equitas is seeking a highly motivated Human Rights Education Assistant for the preparation and implementation of its International Human Rights Training Program (IHRTP). For 42 years, Equitas has organized the International Human Rights Training Program (IHRTP) in Canada, where human rights defenders and educators from around the world come to gain knowledge, skills and strategies related to human rights education and advocacy. This year’s program, which will take place from September 15th to November 7th, 2025, has been newly redesigned. It has a five-week online component, a two-week in-person component in Orford, Quebec, and follow-up activities (e.g., implementing a plan of actions, access to specialized online training courses, evaluation and monitoring) after the program.
Under the supervision of the Senior Human Rights Education Advisor, the IHRTP Education Assistant will provide support to the IHRTP education team responsible for implementing the training program.
Before the in-person training, (Montreal, Sept-Oct 2025):
- Supporting in the management of the Equitas Online Community, including the preparation of the online interactive activities, sign-ups, as well as audiovisual tools for the IHRTP and the creation of an online repository of the program’s training resources.
- Preparing IHRTP 2025 Manuals for printing (ENG and FR)
- Preparing the Participant Handbook for printing
- Preparing various slideshows
- Support the preparation and review of the IHRTP 2025 educational manual and materials
- Prepare various documents (posters, articles, schedules, etc.)
- Support the IHRTP education team with research
- Support the education team’s document translation needs
- Support the distribution and compilation of the pre-training assignments
- Support the review of evaluation tools
- Support and prepare the facilitator orientation session
- Support interpretation and note taking
- Prepare facilitators and education team’s materials and supplies, support the finalizing and printing of Orientation Session materials (ENG and FR).
- Logistics preparation, including the preparation of materials for the move to Orford.
Moving to Orford (October 19th-26th), preparations, and Facilitators’ Orientation
- Coordination in moving, including participation in the early morning move to Orford
- Room Setup, including support the setting up of classrooms and education team space according to the training programs.
- Support the facilitator Orientation Session (Week of October 20) by preparing orientation session materials.
- Support the translation of Orientation Session materials.
- Support during the Welcome Weekend and Registration (Oct 24 – Oct 25), including participants’ registration, distribution of all educational materials to participants (e.g., IHRTP 2025 Manual, Participant Handbook)
- Support the logistics of the Opening Ceremony Coordination
During the in-person training (Orford, October 27th-November 7th)
- Provide on-site support to the Education team and the facilitators in various aspects of the preparation of the Program
- Support the preparation of training materials needed for the Program (e.g. Human Rights Tree, photocopies, etc.)
- Attend plenary sessions and prepare proceedings
- Support training and evaluation activities when required
- Attend the facilitator debrief sessions and take notes
- Communicate with Resource People
- Prepare and translate of PowerPoint presentations (if necessary)
- Prepare and manage audiovisual equipment used during the Program
After the Program (Montreal, to November 22):
- Prepare and back the Education team materials for move back to Montreal.
- Compile and analyze participants’ Individual Plans
- Complete remaining data entry from evaluation questionnaires and support the Education team with the analysis of the evaluation data
- Prepare and submit an activity report
Duties and projects may not be as listed. These will depend on the needs of the training program and team.

What is essential for the role
-
- Eligibility to work in Canada and be based in Montreal.
- Excellent command of written French and English
- Post-secondary education or equivalent experience in a related field such as (but not limited to) education, project administration, event planning, social justice, international development or human rights.
- Commitment to human rights, human rights education and/or social justice issues
- Strong planning and organizational skills, including the ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously
- Analytical skills and ability to take initiative.
- Ability to work in high-pressure environments, and to react quickly and effectively to changing circumstances.
- Interpersonal skills: tact, diplomacy and discretion. Enjoys working with others.
- Excellent computer skills, particularly with online conferencing tools (MS Teams, Zoom, etc.), cloud-based document management (SharePoint) and Office 365 (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
- Availability on weekends and evenings when necessary
What is an asset to the role
- Experience in nonprofit sector
- Experience in international events or contexts
- Proficiency in languages in addition to English and French
- Familiarity with SalesForce, Moodle and Kobo Toolbox is an asset.
