Program

“Advancing Gender Equality through Human Rights Education” is a program conducted in Tunisia and Morocco by Equitas- International Centre for Human Rights Education, in collaboration with local organizations committed to promoting the rights of women and girls. Funded by the Ministère des Relations internationales et de la Francophonie du Québec, this 3-year program (2021-2024) aims to strengthen the capacity of civil society organizations to implement human rights education activities that promote gender equality.

Equitas – International Centre for Human Rights Education

Equitas is a non-profit, non-governmental organization based in Montreal, Canada. Founded in 1967, Equitas works to advance equality, social justice and respect for human dignity through human rights education programs in Canada and around the world.

Purpose of the Program

The purpose of the program is to strengthen the capacity of organizations to implement human rights education activities (training sessions, advocacy or awareness campaigns, etc.) that promote gender equality. To this end, the program provides participating organizations with face-to-face and online training, small grants and support to implement community-based human rights education initiatives, face-to-face and online workshops and coaching sessions, and various networking, support and evaluation activities

Objective of the program

By the end of the program, participating organizations should be able to:

  • Use a framework based on human rights standards and principles to analyze issues in their context, including the particular challenges faced by girls and women in their communities;
  • Integrate a participatory approach in their Human Rights education work to promote the inclusion of all people from a gender equality perspective;
  • Put into practice strategies to promote gender equality in their organization’s Human Rights education work;
  • Explore networking opportunities essential to advancing gender equality in their country and the MENA region;
  • Employ a basic evaluation process to assess the results of their human rights education activities.

Program's learning model

This Human Rights education program is based on the principles of experiential adult learning. Most of the content comes from the participants, with the program providing the framework for sharing experiences. The focus is on applying what is learned and developing strategies for action. Ongoing reflection and evaluation play a central role in this learning process.
