Call for Applications – External Audit Mandate (2026 to 2028)

Equitas – International Centre for Human Rights Education is a Canadian registered charity organization dedicated to advancing equality, social justice, and respect for human rights through education. As a leader in human rights education, Equitas works with partners around the world to build more inclusive and equitable communities.

 

Purpose of the Mandate

As part of our commitment to transparency and sound financial governance, we are seeking an external audit firm to conduct an independent financial audit for our next 3 fiscal years.

The objective of this audit is to provide an independent opinion on Equitas’ financial statements in accordance with Canadian Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and relevant standards for not-for-profit organizations.

 

Duration of the Mandate

The mandate covers the following financial years: 31st March 2026, 31st March 2027 and 31st March 2028.

 

Scope of Work

The mandate consists of:

  • Conducting an annual financial audit in compliance with Canadian accounting and auditing standards for not-for-profit organizations.
  • Reviewing Equitas’ financial statements, accounting records, and internal controls to ensure accuracy and compliance.
  • Identifying any financial risks, irregularities, or areas for improvement in financial management.
  • Providing a management letter with recommendations, if applicable.
  • Presenting the audit report to the Equitas Board of Directors.

 

Selection Criteria

Proposals will be evaluated based on the following criteria:

  • Relevant experience with charities or NPOs.
  • Compliance with professional standards.
  • Ability to deliver within deadlines.
  • Competitiveness of the financial offer.
  • References from similar clients.

 

Content of the Proposal

Interested firms should submit a proposal that includes:

  • A cover letter including a brief background of the firm, including relevant experience in auditing Charity registered organizations.
  • A description of the proposed audit methodology and its approach for conducting the engagement.
  • A description of the qualifications of the audit team.
  • Estimated fees and any additional costs.
  • Timeline and availability to meet Equitas’ audit schedule.
  • Contact details of at least two references from similar engagements.
