Equitas is more than thrilled to announce the International Human Rights Training Program (IHRTP) is finally coming back this summer after three years of absence! From June 11 to 30, Equitas will welcome in Montreal a hundred of human rights educators and defenders from all around the world for an intensive and innovative human rights course.
The IHRTP is a one-of-a-kind training that aims at enhancing the effectiveness and broadening the scope of our participants’ initiatives as they strive to bring positive social change in their communities. Using the participative approach, which places the learners at the core of the process by starting from their knowledge and lived experiences to adapt and transmit the new material, the training itself is shaped according to the identities and backgrounds of our participants. We provide them with the tools and the skills to reinforce their projects, which we ensure by requiring each to develop an individual action plan they will implement post-training.
Since its creation in 1980, the IHRTP has gained international recognition and positioned Equitas as a pioneer in the human rights education sphere.
More than 4,000 human rights actors from all continents have received the training through an ever-changing curriculum, which Equitas constantly update as new questions arise and issues brought to light around the world.
Throughout the IHRTP, we will hold many events to ensure the program’s outreach and foster the engagement of the participants with their peers and the community of Montreal, as well as some important guests. We will notably welcome Peace Nobel Prize awardee and IHRTP alumni Oleksandra Matviitchuk during our Opening Ceremony to celebrate the beginning of our participants’ journey. We will also organize an open house, an international evening, and a closing ceremony to top it all off.
Some of our events will be open to the general public. See how you can help us make the IHRTP a memorable experience for this year’s cohort!
