PRESS RELEASE: Equitas heads to Parliament Hill for National Queer Day of Action

Press Release

Montreal based, the organization joins national call for renewed 2SLGBTQI+ Action Plan

MONTREAL,QC — At a time when 2SLGBTQI+ communities are facing growing challenges at home and abroad, Canada cannot step back from a funded national Action Plan.

Equitas is heading to Parliament Hill in Ottawa on October 6 to bring the priorities of 2SLGBTQI+ communities in Canada to federal decision-makers.

The organization will be part of a delegation of 45 organizations from across Canada participating in the Queer Day of Action, a national Day on the Hill bringing together 2SLGBTQI+, international, feminist and labour organizations.

Together, they are calling on the federal government to renew and strengthen the Federal 2SLGBTQI+ Action Plan and ensure it remains backed by sustained federal investment.

Through its training programs, partnerships, and dialogue spaces, Equitas supports 2SLGBTQI+ individuals by strengthening their ability to assert their rights, participate in decisions that affect them, and contribute to more inclusive communities. Its participation will bring local experience to the national discussion about what communities need and how the federal government can help.

“We’re heading to Parliament Hill to make sure the needs of 2SLGBTQI+ communities are heard. A renewed and expanded action plan, backed by sustained funding, would help turn federal commitments into meaningful support for people here at home.”

– Élise Voyer, Senior Manager, Development & Innovation

A renewed Action Plan would support front-line services, housing, healthcare, support for LGBTQ+ refugees, and economic and business development. Participating organizations are urging the federal government to protect the capacity of 2SLGBTQI+ organizations, strengthen the services communities rely on, and advance 2SLGBTQI+ equality in Canada and internationally.

For Equitas, the day is an opportunity to connect local priorities with a broader national effort and demonstrate that federal investment matters in communities of every size, across the country.
