We had our second gathering of Young Women, Young Leaders this week. The energy in the room was amazing. We were hosted by our partners in Saint-Michel, La Maison d’Haïti, who ensured the room was filled with warmth, live music, dancing and delicious food. There were 40 participants present from our 4 partner groups: CJE CDN, Équipe RDP and Dawson Community Center.
We were also pleased to welcome inspirational mentors: Sharna Dey, community activist of CDN, Margaret Guest, Community Liaison for Marc Garneau, Illona Dougherty, President and CEO of Apathy is Boring and Cathy Wong, Development Agent Youth Sector, YMCAs of Quebec. The mentors provided concrete examples of youth-led community action projects they have been involved with. Later they facilitated smaller, brainstorm discussion of key elements to keep in mind while planning an action for change projects such as: project planning, identifying allies and mobilizing the greater community and involving decision makers.
Many thanks to La Maison d’Haïti for hosting and to the entire YWYL team for making this event a success!
