On the Equitas Board of Directors, each member brings his or her own life experience, professional and academic background, dedication and passion for the cause of advancing human rights through education. The professionalism, diversity and open-mindedness of the members are a source of inspiration and motivation for me.
During my career as a manager in a global company, I have learned a lot about the realities that an organization like Equitas faces in the world. Responsible for numerous business and operational projects, both in Canada and abroad, I have worked in a results-oriented business environment. My background has taught me the importance of a task-oriented philosophy that is well suited to the situation in order to achieve the set objectives. This practical experience, combined with my interest in philanthropy in general and the cause of human rights, will be my contribution to the advancement of the philanthropic culture at Equitas.
I see the right to education on an equal and non-discriminatory basis as critically important to the advancement of social justice. Discrimination against the LGBTQ2 community internationally is an issue of particular concern to me. In Canada we have made significant progress over many years on this issue. From this experience, as Canadians, I believe we have a responsibility to participate in the empowerment of this community.
