The opportunity

Equitas is Canadian non-profit organization dedicated to advancing equality, social justice and respect for human dignity in Canada and around the world through human rights education. Reporting to the Director of Impact and Innovation, the Senior Manager- Consulting Services is
responsible for the strategic development, positioning, and management of Equitas’ consulting services. The role leads the growth of consulting mandates that advance human rights education and social justice, ensuring alignment with organizational priorities and standards of excellence.
The Senior Manager manages the development of consulting proposals, ensures the quality and impact of consulting deliverables and strengthens relationships with clients and partners. They also contribute to organizational learning by fostering synergies between consulting work, program implementation and program fund development.

Major Responsibilities

1. Strategy and positioning

  • Lead development and implementation of Equitas Consulting Services strategy, aligned with
    organizational priorities and long-term sustainability
  • Lead the development of new consulting thematic areas (e.g. business and human rights),
    including internal alignment, cross-team understanding and positioning of Equitas
  • Monitor trends, opportunities, and emerging needs in the consulting landscape to inform
    strategic positioning and growth
  • Advance synergies and mutual learning (approaches, lessons, best practices) between Consulting, Programs, and Program Fund Development.

2. Consulting mandate development and oversight

  • Lead the development of competitive consulting proposals
  • Coordinate with Directors to mobilize appropriate expertise for mandates
  • Ensure the quality, relevance and timely delivery of consulting deliverables
  • Contribute to the design and delivery of consulting mandates where appropriate/possible
  • Ensure evaluation and learning across consulting mandates to strengthen future work

3. Marketing and visibility

  • Development of a strategy to ensure that Equitas’ consulting services are visible and
    accessible to prospective clients
  • Collaborate with Communications to strengthen visibility and positioning of Consulting
    through strategic content development
  • Develop marketing and communications materials including service brochures, proposal templates, case studies and website content.

4. Operational and financial management

  • Develop/maintain systems and tools to support efficient and responsive consulting
    operations (CV templates, proposal templates, expert roster)
  • Manage consulting budgets and client invoicing
  • Ensure high quality of deliverables for all consulting services offered.

5. Representation and relationship management

  • Represent Equitas at strategic events related to consulting priorities as needed
  • Cultivate relationships with current and prospective clients and partners
  • Maintain a network of relevant contacts across government, civil society and academic sectors to identify emerging consulting opportunities
  • Act as a point of contact for existing clients throughout the consulting relationship, ensuring continuity and responsiveness

6. Supervision

  • Supervise the Senior Human Rights Advisor and/or any other staff assigned to support consulting mandates
  • Provide guidance, coaching, and feedback to ensure high-quality contributions, effective coordination, and appropriate workload planning

7. Other

Performs other duties as determined in consultation with the Director of Impact and Innovation

What is essential for the role

  • Commitment to Equitas’ mission and values;
  • A university degree in a relevant field such as business administration, management, international development, human rights, social sciences, or a related discipline
  • At least 8 years of relevant professional experience, particularly in project management and financial management in the international development, consulting, or nonprofit sectors
  • Proven experience in proposal development and managing consulting assignments
  • Experience in managing budgets, contracts, and client relationships.
  • Strong skills in strategic thinking, planning, and organization.
  • Excellent communication skills in both of Canada’s official languages (English and French) and relationship-building skills, with the ability to engage partners and clients from diverse backgrounds
  • In-depth proficiency with common office software and digital collaboration tools, particularly in document preparation, budgeting, data management, and project
    management platforms
  • Ability to travel within Canada and abroad once a year;
