April 4, 2012: Gala Cocktail honours Ms. Asma Jahangir

Asma Jahangir receives the Equitas 2012 Award for Human Rights Education On April 4, 2012,  Equitas held a gala cocktail in Toronto to celebrate the achievements of human rights defender Asma Jahangir, recipient of the 2012 Equitas Award for Human Rights Education. Graciously and generously hosted by long-time supporter and partner TD Bank Group, the event was held in the beautiful Lambeth Room on the 54th floor of the TD Tower, offering spectacular views of the city. The evening provided us all with a great opportunity to renew and expand our networks in Toronto, as well as the chance to reflect on the immense challenges human rights defenders face when standing up to injustices and human rights violations.  The Hon. Ed Broadbent warmly introduced Asma and described some of her incredible work, and Asma herself spoke eloquently about the vital importance of building a culture of human rights in Pakistan and around the world.  Phil Fontaine, recipient of the first Equitas Award for Human Rights Education, was amongst those who presented the Award to Asma, making the moment particularly meaningful.
