Alongside 40 like-minded colleagues in Canada and partners around the world, you could help empower people to address inequality and discrimination, and work to build more inclusive and rights-respecting communities with Equitas.

The opportunity

Equitas is a Canadian non-profit organization that advances equality, social justice, and respect for human dignity in Canada and around the world through human rights education.

Reporting to the Senior Manager, Impact and Accountability, the Monitoring, Evaluation, and Accountability Advisor ensures that Equitas documents the impact of its work in Canada and internationally, fulfills its accountability obligations to its funders and partners, and equips project teams and the organization to make informed decisions regarding project implementation. They also contribute to building the capacity of staff and partners in monitoring and evaluation. Beyond specific projects, the role plays a cross-functional role in supporting the entire organization.

The Monitoring, Evaluation, and Accountability Advisor works closely with the Senior Manager, Impact and Accountability, and the Director of Impact and Innovation. They coordinate project monitoring, evaluation, and reporting in a relationship with the Human Rights Education Program team and the Impact and Innovation unit.

Tasks and main Responsibilities

All responsibilities are carried out in close collaboration with the Senior Manager, Impact and Accountability, the Human Rights Education Program teams, and the Impact and Innovation unit, as well as with partner organizations in Canada and internationally.

1. Monitoring and Evaluation (M&E) of Projects

  • Collaborate with project teams to ensure that evaluation practices themselves serve as drivers of transformation: participatory, human rights-based, and contributing to gender equality and the empowerment of individuals and communities involved in the projects.
  • Collaborate on the design and implementation of monitoring, evaluation, and knowledge-sharing practices to support the achievement of results at the project and organizational levels.
  • Coordinate the implementation of project M&E frameworks, including the logic model, performance measurement framework, and evaluation plan.
  • Develop and maintain M&E tools, support project teams in data collection methodologies, and propose new approaches in consultation with the teams.
  • Manage the M&E data management system and contribute to its continuous improvement, particularly by tracking results and participants.
  • Analyze M&E data and coordinate analysis processes with teams to identify challenges and opportunities, potential gaps, and adjustment strategies.
  • Participate in data collection processes with individuals and communities involved in and affected by projects, using participatory approaches, in the countries and implementation contexts.

2. Knowledge Acquisition and Sharing

  • Ensure that M&E processes facilitate learning and that this learning is integrated into project design.
  • Document best practices and lessons learned and develop knowledge-sharing tools related to Equitas’ work.
  • Synthesize project achievements to inform communication and knowledge dissemination activities, both internally and externally.
  • Represent Equitas in relevant forums, knowledge networks, and communities of practice.
  • Contribute to Equitas’ communication resources, such as annual reports and newsletters.

3. Project / Program Reporting

  • Plan and coordinate the reporting process for the organization’s projects.
  • Ensure that performance indicators and targets remain relevant and aligned with the project design and work plan.
  • Coordinate the preparation, drafting, and review of annual reports and work plans, and ensure their quality and timely submission as required by funding agreements.
  • Liaise with funding agencies on M&E and reporting matters.

4. M&E Capacity Building

  • Build the M&E capacity of staff and partners, particularly through training, coaching, and the development of tools and guides on methodologies, data collection and analysis, sound data management, and M&E principles and approaches.
  • Identify professional development opportunities that support the integration of M&E practices into the work of teams and partners.

5. Other

  • Participate in the design of new projects, including the development of the theory of change, the logic model, the performance measurement framework, and M&E strategies.
  • Assume other responsibilities assigned by the Senior Manager, Impact, Learning, and Accountability.
