It is with great emotion that Equitas pays tribute to Fatou Bintou Thioune, a close collaborator and long-time partner, whose passing we learned of with great sadness last July.

We are here to provide a common understanding of human rights. All members of society, without distinction, must be given the opportunity to know their rights and take ownership of them. – Fatou Bintou Thioune

Her unwavering commitment to human rights and women’s rights in Senegal and West Africa touched hundreds of lives and inspired a whole generation of human rights educators.

Fatou leaves behind a living legacy of solidarity, dignity, and hope that will continue to guide our work and that of our partners.
