Equitas – International Centre for Human Rights Education is seeking a full-time Communications Manager to lead the strategic development and implementation of Equitas’ communications efforts.  S/he will be responsible for developing and increasing Equitas’ visibility and brand-awareness with key stakeholder groups in Canada and internationally.

Responsibilities

Lead Development of Communications Strategies and Plans

  • Lead the development of Equitas communications strategies, annual plans and budgets and actively contribute to organizational reflection/learning processes
  • Identify and develop new communications tools and channels to reach strategic goals related to program results, knowledge-sharing and fund development
  • Measure and report on progress towards achievement of communications goals, objectives, and annual results
  • Support colleagues and work teams in integrating communications objectives and activities into individual and project plans
  • Provide coordination and support to the Board Communications Committee

Lead Communications Activities

  • Ensure clarity of key messages and consistency of their use in Equitas’ communications efforts
  • Further strengthen Equitas’ online presence, including website and social media
  • Oversee production of Equitas publications, including the e-newsletter and annual report
  • Manage and produce content to feed Equitas’ various communications channels, including web site and social media
  • Act as a focal point for Equitas media relations and represent Equitas as required

Support Fund Development Strategies and Activities

  • Support the delivery of Fund Development activities, particularly as these relate to communications with key stakeholders
  • Provide guidance on integrating key messages and branding guidelines into Fund Development materials

Support Organizational Activities and Processes

  • Provide support to ensure efficient and effective internal communications
  • Perform such other tasks as required for the success of Equitas

Knowledge and skills required

Applicants must have the right to work in Canada

Essential:

  • Commitment to Equitas’ mission vision and values
  • University Degree or equivalent experience in communications, marketing, or a related field and 5-7 years demonstrated experience working in the field of communications
  • Excellent communication skills (oral and written) in both official languages both of Canada’s official languages (English and French)
  • A proven record of success:
    • developing and delivering effective communications strategies and plans;
    • representing organizations to diverse audiences;
    • working with a wide range of traditional and social media;
    • producing and editing engaging publications in diverse formats; and
    • designing online content
  • Proven experience with social media platforms (Blogs, Twitter, LinkedIn, YouTube, Facebook, etc.)
  • Experience with e-communications, including preparing and sending E-Bulletins, supporter updates, appeals, using electronic databases, etc.
  • Computer literate with strong skills in MS Office, WordPress and Adobe Creative Suite (or equivalent)
  • Strong organisational skills with an excellent attention to detail and ability to manage multiple tasks at the same time
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and demonstrated leadership capacity
  • Experience working in a cross-cultural setting

  • A track-record for creativity, strategic judgment, innovation and vision
  • A high level of integrity, tact and discretion
  • Familiarity with human rights and social justice work in the non-profit sector
  • Experience working on national and international-level communication activities
  • Other languages an asset
