Women migrant workers are faced with the double burden of being both women and migrants: two of the groups most vulnerable to human rights abuses. The experiences of these modern day pioneers who leave their homelands in search of a better life abroad for themselves and their families magnify the challenges that workers everywhere face in the age of globalization.

The UN Road Map is a guide to the international human rights system and other mechanisms to promote and protect the rights of migrant workers. This publication identifies practical approaches which can be used both within and outside the formal mechanisms of the UN and ILO systems and serves as an educational tool in promoting awareness of migrant workers’ issues. The second edition was published in 2004 and has been translated into Bahasa Indonesia.

The UN Road Map was drafted and published in partnership with The Asia Pacific Forum for Women, Law and Development (Thailand), The Ateneo Human Rights Centre (the Philippines) and The Asian Migrants Centre (Hong Kong).
